53-Man Roster: Bubble Watch In Week 3
Honing in on Cleveland Browns players that are on the roster bubble heading into Saturday's preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Browns’ preseason culminates in Seattle tomorrow night. The late start means analysis will come in the wee hours of the morning back home in Cleveland. We all know you will be staying up watching this one, and why not, as the starters are going to get some run for the first time all preseason.
But the real battle is for those end-of-the-roster roles and that means watching this one all the way through to the end to see who makes that lasting impression. At Browns Film Breakdown we have you covered with who to watch, and a breakdown of who makes a difference in those fringe battles to make the team.
Let’s highlight who we have our eye on in Seattle.
Michael Woods (WR)
A former sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Woods has shown potential in practice and the preseason, but has had very limited opportunities during the regular season. His NFL production is five receptions on 10 targets for 45 yards, all of which came during 2022 over a ten game sample size. In 2023, Woods did not play an offensive snap due to a ruptured Achilles in August and a subsequent suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. However, there may be something there for the former Oklahoma Sooner that has the desired athleticism at the position.
From a roster construction perspective, the Browns have kept six wide receivers on the 53-man roster in every season since 2020. Outside of injury or unforeseen circumstances, the first five spots at the position have been claimed in Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore, Cedric Tillman, and rookie Jamari Thrash. Woods could claim that spot with a stand out performance against the Seahawks (coupled with his performance thus far), or the spot could be retained by the incumbent in David Bell.
