Browns Film Breakdown Morning Newsletter: 11/2/2024
Running backs have more to do than just run and catch so let's appreciate the return of Nick Chubb's pass protection.
Happy Saturday everyone! Hope the weekend’s arrival finds you well and ready to consume some quality football. The college slate is a little on the light side but Ohio State and Penn State square off in a Top-5 matchup that should at least make your afternoon better. With an eye on the Browns it’s tough to keep our minds off the lingering matchup with the Chargers and the ramifications of the outcome.
Should the Browns find a way to get their third win of the season the ramifications are huge. They’re likely then to be “in the hunt” of teams who can make a realistic push into the Wildcard picture. Should they lose this Week 9 game they’d fall to 2-7 and essentially end any remaining hope they can make a playoff push following the bye week.
The biggest immediate fallout from that outcome is the trade deadline lingering on November 5th. There will without a doubt be names moved from this roster to accumulate ammunition for the future roster turnaround. But that’s bleak so we go into the weekend with plenty of optimism about the potential for this third win and turning this season around. Let’s get this thing rolling.
Reminder on what we’re doing with these Newsletters each morning:
We will aim to do with this Morning Newsletter — give you something new to know. This Newsletter won’t be over-saturated with links to click on or anything useless but rather something small, concise, and meaningful that has to do with the Browns each morning. Topics will vary but normally it’ll be something I watched on film review, or something I noticed about the next opponent, or a college player I think you should know ahead of the off-season. Just a piece of information I think is worth your time and definitely won’t waste your time. That is what you can expect. And with a nice and direct link to your daily podcast as well.
Square up and get a strong base, we’re about to talk about running back blocking.
I think the small things matter so much in football. You have to major in the minor details as they say and the Browns offense has done all but that through a vast majority of the season. They have a notable problem being in third and long situations as well. When that happens, you need extra bodies in protection and each running back through the first seven weeks struggled. The position group alone allowed 10 pressures. Too passive in approach that demands physicality and not squaring up.
