Final 53-Man Roster Projection (Offense)
A revised projection of the Browns offensive roster before cuts come down the line over the next two days.
The Browns will cut their roster from 90 players to 53 players by 4PM on Tuesday. With that in mind, here’s an updated look at the roster ahead of that deadline.
This article uses the word projection rather than prediction purposefully. As you will note, my categories are not driven to be predictions as much as they are trying to indicate where players at each position group stand in the pecking order.
I changed the verbiage from “Locks” and “Bubble” to “On the Roster,” which denotes players I think are more than likely on the 53-man roster if healthy. I also used “In the Building” to cover players who are likely to be added to the practice squad, or around the team in some capacity during the season. Finally, I added a category called “Hurt” because, man oh man, do Browns players like to get hurt.
One other reminder: practice squads are comprised of 16 players and one International Pathway player. 10 players must have two accrued seasons or fewer, six can be veteran players. Teams can elevate two practice squad players each week to participate in that game. Players can only be elevated three times in a season before they must be signed to the active roster in order to continue to be eligible.
I again didn’t include specialists in my article. The Browns have their kicker, punter, and long-snapper, in the law firm of Hopkins, Bojorquez, and Hughlett. Cade York was traded, not waived, and Lucas Havrisik probably ends up as the 16th practice squad member as the emergency kicker/punter. Rex Sunahara, who has been long-snapping with the team through the preseason, will go home to Bay Village and be the only person in Ohio rooting against Charley Hughlett’s hamstrings. That wraps that up, and sets us up to dive right in.
Quarterbacks
On the Roster (3): Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson
In the Building (1): Tyler Huntley
