Gameday Newsletter: Week 13, Broncos
Browns Film Breakdown is back with all the insights you need as the Browns are on the road for MNF in Denver.
We’re back from the long holiday weekend for a game in primetime on Monday Night Football where your Cleveland Browns head out West to face an opponent that haunts Browns fans from many years gone by in a way those of us in the “younger” generation cannot relate.
It’s funny, no Browns opponent, even the Steelers and Ravens, drive my parents more crazy than the Denver Broncos. Their hatred for John Elway will always be palpable. It runs deep. Unlike many of these opponents where the Browns dominated the matchup in the 1950s and 1960s — and helped form out grandparents love for the franchise — the Broncos came into the Browns universe and dominated them right from the start. We will cover that later.
The hatred for the Broncos originated from the two heartbreaking defeats in AFC Championship games in 1987 and 1988. We don’t have to revisit them but that is where the hatred was truly born. But the fans of my age — born in the late 1980s or early 1990s — do not understand it quite like their parents and grandparents. We didn’t live through that and we watched the Broncos win Super Bowls while the Browns were absent from the NFL.
So, this is purely a hatred for a specific fan. Make sure you respect that hatred today. Thanks me later. Anyway, the Browns come in 3-8 and trying to keep the trend moving upward in a rough season and the Sean Payton Broncos are 7-5 and needing a win ahead of their bye week to keep the playoff hopes in good shape. It’s a big game for both sides.
We wait no longer, let’s get to everything you need to know about tonight’s MNF game including a direct link to the Gameday Podcast.
Gentle winds and seasonable temperatures in Denver tonight, the weather will be no problem for either team. It'll be in the low 40s at kickoff and drop down into the thirties through the game but no precipitation and light winds. This is ideal December football. 8/10
