Gameday Newsletter: Week 3, Giants
All the information you need to enjoy the Browns return to Huntington Bank Field to face the Giants.
The best part about going 1-1 is the chance to now go 2-1. The Browns have one heck of a chance to get that done today as they welcome the Giants into Huntington Bank Field for a classic battle of old school NFL franchises.
Following last week’s rollercoaster ride in Jacksonville, that somehow turned into a win, against all odds at times, the team is clearly feeling better about themselves and they return home to a packed stadium full of fans ready to rewrite their 2024 home game experience after whatever happened in Week 1.
The home field should be rocking for this one and the defense will be depending on that crowd noise to make life miserable for the opposing offense — much like they did in the dominant season they had just last year. The Giants truly believe they can march into Cleveland and come out with their first victory of the season so it is up to the Browns defense, the crowd, and just enough offense to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Let’s get after it on this beautiful Sunday and we start with the podcast you all passionately crave.
Inside the weekly Gameday Newsletter you will get all the pieces of information paired with your Gameday Podcast to enhance your Sundays with this team.
Per the Sunday usual, I request that you sit back, pour your coffee, turn on the best pre-game Browns song known to man, and enjoy a fresh delivery of sizzling information from the BFB staff.
It's going to be a hot one in Cleveland today. Because of plentiful sunshine, it might even be hotter than last week in Jacksonville. There's little to no chance of rain until Sunday evening, so the only weather variable will be the heat. We do get some cloud cover to help with the sun but overall the temperature is going to be above 80 degrees at kickoff with very little wind to cool you down. Let’s hope those clouds do their job.
The Browns and Giants have a long history. These two teams first squared off in 1950 and played 52 times in total. The amazing thing, as the two teams shared the Eastern Conference through the 1950’s and 1960’s, is they faced off 41 times in total during those two decades. In 1970 with the AFL-NFL merger, the Browns went to the AFC and the Giants the NFC and the two sides have only faced each other 11 total times since. The first of the new style was in 1973.
In the 11 meetings since the merger, the Giants hold a 6-5 lead over the Browns with the Giants winning in 2016 in Cleveland by a score of 27-13 and the Browns winning the most recent matchup between the two 20-6 in MetLife Stadium back in 2020.
The Browns lead the series all-time at 28-22-2.
The Film Notes section doesn’t always have to be complicated. I think this one simply comes down to defending the Giants lone main threat: Malik Nabers. The rookie out of LSU is everything he was billed to be when going inside the top-10 of the 2024 NFL Draft and the Giants deserve credit for pushing the football his way as often as possible.
