Gameday Newsletter: Week 6, Eagles
Back again with all the insights you need as the Browns travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles.
These are tough times for Cleveland Browns fans and I think optimism is running short these days but nothing will ever keep us from getting together on Sundays to think, talk, and invest in these Cleveland Browns. “We can’t help but show up, no matter how hard we fight it” is almost the website motto at this point and you guys continue to amaze me with the support despite the ugly start. They’re 1-4 but there’s belief a win today and they might just be able to start to find something to salvage here.
They once again travel East, this time to face the Eagles in another version of what is a must-win. Kevin Stefasnki continues to face immense criticism and is at the point the performances have to turn more competitive in order to keep the faith of those writing his checks. It is also a crucial day for Deshaun Watson whose league-wide reputation is somehow even lower now than it was at various points in the early season. It should be a beautiful day in the City of Brotherly Love and we keep our fingers crossed the Browns decide to show up.
Inside the weekly Gameday Newsletter you will get all the pieces of information paired with your Gameday Podcast to enhance your Sundays with this team.
Per the Sunday usual, I request that you sit back, pour your coffee, turn on the best pre-game Browns song known to man, and enjoy a fresh delivery of all the best information from the BFB staff.
Another good day for football, as temperatures look to be warm and humid on Sunday in Philadelphia. There's a chance of showers but shouldn't be too bad. Solid weather overall, as the Browns continue to get lucky in weather games. This is 8/10 football weather with a high of 82 degrees, a slight wind up to 10MPH, and sunny skies.
The Browns and Eagles history is very similar to the Browns history against the NFC North where it started well before the AFL/NFL merger. Again, the teams were former Eastern Conference rivals that started playing in 1950 and met twice yearly until the 1970 AFL/NFL merger . The Browns didn’t have quite the crazy success the way they did against the Redskins in those early years, but they still went 26-10-1 against the Eagles in the 1950-1969 era — continuing those dominant trends during those years.
From 1972 to 2020, the Browns are 6-7 against the Eagles and the Browns won the last matchup between the two in 2020.
The Browns lead the all-time series 32-17-1.
This week the Browns’ defense has to find a way to get back on track. Particularly their run defense as they have allowed and NFL-high 23 explosive runs (10+ yards) this season and this is not something any of us saw coming.
