Newsletter: Buckeye Running Backs, Watson's Voided Money, and OC Interview Thoughts
Wouldn't be the worst idea to land one of these Ohio State backfield stalwarts.
What a two day streak of football the college football gods provided us, eh? The Penn State and Notre Dame game was to the wire and Jack Sawyer cemented himself among legends with his 4th and goal strip sack return touchdown to seal the deal for the Buckeyes in Dallas. All due respect to Notre Dame, and I mean that sincerely, but those were the two best teams remaining in college football last night. Texas had all the tools to win that game and nearly pulled it off. We have to wait until January 20th to see if the Irish can pull the upset and I cannot wait. It is going to be a media circus for this one between two of the sport’s storied programs.
The NFL is now tasked with responding to the quality of games the college level provided and I have some hope they can make it happen. The Texans hosting the Chargers has all the feels of an unexpected wildcard upset while I am just going to sit back and watch Steelers and Ravens knowing the drama coming for whatever side loses.
If the Ravens drop another playoff game the heat keeps getting turned on Lamar Jackson and that core to figure out playoff success and if the Steelers go one-and-done again it has Mike Tomlin getting more pressure than ever. It will be interesting to see the fallout of that one.
We are in the midst of the greatest five day football stretch ever….well, until next weekend, that is. Enjoy it. Our days are numbered.
The Browns made the big hire to fix their run game by bringing in Mike Bloomgren, who I broke down extensively here. And with that change to their plans for running the ball it is noteworthy that they need to redirect their assets in that running back room. They flat out need more talent. Ohio State had two of them on display last night in Treveyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins.
Henderson might have the best burst in the class when he finds the open field and that was evident in not only his 66-yard run in the Rose Bowl last week but also his 75-yard screen touchdown before half last night. The kid can fly. Watch his burst in speed when he hits the 40-yard line. He gets to a top end speed of 21.1 MPH. He can really
Both of these backs are no stranger to stepping up in lead blocking for each other or in the pocket during pass protection duties. Judkins had an elite lead block on Henderson’s first quarter sweep. These types of blocks are all over both player’s film.
