Scouting Week 2: Everything You Need To Know About The Jacksonville Jaguars Defense
We get deep into the details about what you can expect from the Jaguars defense against the Browns in the Week 2 matchup.
Each week Browns Film Breakdown is going to give you detailed information about the upcoming opponent as we prep you for the best ways to watch the game and pick up on the chess match happening between each side. This is by far my favorite part of the sport and I want to share my thoughts in this forum with you weekly. We will do one on Friday afternoon and then the other side of the ball on Saturday afternoon.
The goal will be to discuss the personnel used and preferred by the opponent, schemes of choice in particular situations, and how the Browns can attack the opposition on both sides of the ball. Let’s see if you can come out of these articles with a better understanding of how the opposition goes after the Browns to enhance your viewing experience.
Defense
The Jaguars played a ridiculous high 64.6 percent of snaps in Cover-1 or 2-Man coverages. They wanted to close the speed gap with the Dolphins by working physicality into the fold to disrupt timing. The goal in doing this was to slow down Tua Tagovailoa’s anticipation-based throws — his best trait.
The Jags like to use a base 4-2-5 with three safeties on the field. Those are Andre Cisco (5) and then the combination of Darnell Savage (6) and Antonio Johnson (26). The trio played 50+ snaps each and they align with versatility rotating who will play up in the box and then in the deep half depending on smaller or bigger personnel. Here is a look at varying alignments.
