The Browns Can't Keep Ignoring The Problem
Continuing to start Deshaun Watson hurts the team and is evidence of deeper organizational problems.
Everyone who watched the Browns blowout loss to the Commanders knew what they were witnessing. That was the end of an era. Unfortunately for Browns fans, the organization, for whatever reason, is continuing with their charade that Deshaun Watson is still a starting-caliber NFL quarterback.
It was announced on Wednesday that Watson will start against the Eagles. Not only that, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski, there was “no discussion” of making a quarterback change.
For any Browns fan that has watched their offense this year, it is truly jaw-dropping to be told by the head coach that a change wasn't discussed. Continuing to start Watson is the wrong decision for the offensive scheme, for the Browns competitive chances against the Eagles on Sunday, and for the health of the locker room. The game against Washington on Sunday was the final nail in the coffin. The Watson Era is over. Only in Cleveland would the organization continue to blithely insist that what fans saw with their own eyes didn't happen.
There has been plenty of reporting, and much more speculation, about who is making the decisions within the Browns facility as it pertains to Deshaun Watson. I don't know what the truth is and I would venture to guess that few people outside the building know for sure.
